Handmade earrings with a pink swarovski crystal cross and genuine black
agate beads...
For the earrings' colour scheme, I was inspired by the pink crosses which were placed
on major thoroughfares in Ciudad Juarez by the Mothers of Juarez and Chihuahua who are determined to keep the memory of their
daughters alive through their struggle. The pink cross has become a poignant symbol of the struggle to prevent violence against
women.

About STICHTING
HESTER
Hester van Nierop was nearly 28
and had just graduated as an architect when, in September 1998, she was found raped and murdered in her hotel room in the
Mexican border town of Ciudad Juárez. The fate suffered by Hester in Ciudad Juárez was not an exceptional one for the
women in this town. Juárez was and still is infamous for the excessive violence against women, that takes place unpunished
in most cases and against which the Mexican government is reacting inadequately. Impunity reigns in Ciudad
Juárez.
At
the end of 2004, following the murder of her daughter, Arsčne van Nierop decided to found stichting
Hester to fight this injustice and give a voice to the women of Ciudad Juárez.
Stichting Hester wants to
help prevent violence against women in Ciudad Juárez by financially supporting Casa Amiga.
About CASA AMIGA
Casa Amiga was established
in 1998 in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, by Esther Chávez to offer help to the many victims of violence against women. The centre
was officially opened in February 1999 and since then, it is trying to help the women and children
of Ciudad Juárez and making them more defensible by not only offering shelter to victims, but also psychological, legal,
and social support and extensive education to create awareness of violence and its effects.
In the Netherlands and Europe, Stichting Hester is trying to create as much awareness as possible to
the situation in Ciudad Juárez.
